AEDRA THERAPY SERVICES

There is a reason you feel this way

Specialist online therapy for eating disorders, trauma and anxiety.

Perhaps you're tired of fighting yourself.

You might know that your fear doesn't make logical sense — but still be unable to switch it off.

You might promise yourself that today you'll eat normally, only to find the rules becoming louder again.

You might be successful, capable and the person everybody else relies upon, while privately feeling as though you're barely holding things together.

You might understand exactly where your difficulties came from and wonder why understanding hasn't made them disappear.

Or perhaps you can't explain what's wrong at all.

You just know that living inside your own head has become exhausting.

You don't need to have the right words yet.

Therapy should make sense of the whole person.

Cate — Integrative Therapist & Founder of AEDRA Therapy Services

I'm Cate, an integrative therapist and the founder of AEDRA Therapy Services.

For more than 15 years, I've worked alongside people living with eating disorders, trauma, anxiety and the complicated ways these difficulties can overlap.

I don't believe one therapeutic model can explain every person. My work draws on different evidence-based approaches alongside neuroscience, trauma theory and an understanding of attachment but therapy with me isn't about applying techniques to you.

It's about being curious together about what is happening, why it makes sense, and what might help it change.

I will take your difficulties seriously without reducing you to them. I'll challenge you when challenge is useful, sit with the things that aren't easily fixed, and help you notice possibilities that can be difficult to see from inside the struggle.

You don't have to arrive knowing where to begin. We can work that out together.

What if the question isn't “What's wrong with me?”

Perhaps a more useful question is:
“What happened and what did I learn I had to do to cope?”

An eating disorder can create control when life feels uncontrollable. Anxiety can be a mind working relentlessly to prevent danger. Perfectionism, people-pleasing and even relentless self-criticism can develop as ways of protecting us from things that once felt threatening.

The problem is that strategies which once helped us cope can eventually begin to restrict our lives.

Understanding why a pattern developed doesn't mean accepting that it has to stay.

It gives us somewhere different from which to begin changing it.

01

START WITH A CONVERSATION

You don't need to know exactly what you need or how to explain it. Begin with a confidential enquiry and, if it seems I may be able to help, we'll arrange a free 20-minute consultation.

What does working together look like?

02

UNDERSTAND WHAT'S HAPPENING

We'll build a fuller picture of what's happening now, what may be maintaining it, and the experiences, patterns and needs that sit around it. Therapy is collaborative — not something that's done to you.

03

WORK TOWARDS MEANINGFUL CHANGE

Understanding matters, but therapy also needs to help life become different. Together we'll work towards changes that are realistic, meaningful and able to extend beyond the therapy room.

Understanding can be useful in its own right.

You don't have to be in therapy to begin making sense of what you're experiencing. AEDRA's articles and resources explore eating disorders, trauma, anxiety and the patterns that can develop around them, combining practical ideas with deeper explorations of how our experiences shape the way we think,  feel and respond.

EATING DISORDERS & RECOVERY

Understanding restriction, mental hunger, body image, recovery fears and the complicated relationships between food, identity, control and safety.

TRAUMA, THE BODY & NERVOUS SYSTEM

Exploring trauma beyond memory — including attachment, dissociation, sensory processing, nervous-system responses and the ways experiences can remain embodied.

AEDRA's digital tools offer thoughtful, accessible support for moments when understanding what's happening , and knowing what might help , can feel difficult..
